Sunday came way too soon. I wasn't ready to leave. We hit up some last minute sites before leaving around 1. Then it was off to Pensacola to visit with some family. We decided to take the scenic route and drive the coast the whole way. It was a great idea, until we hit Panama City. UGH. I wont even get on my rant about that. I was so happy to finally get to my Aunt's house. I hadn't seen everyone in way to long. We had a relaxing evening just hanging out with the family, swimming in the pool, and eating my aunts delicious cooking.
We left out at 7 AM Friday to embark on Grey's very first Beach trip. It was the number 1 thing on my Summer Bucket List seen here. The ride down was super easy, only took us like 3.5 hours of drive time. By the way, if you ever go to Carrabelle... there is NO Waffle House in between Columbus, Ga. and Tallahassee, Fl. We were so happy when we finally found one. That was our first adventure of the weekend. We were STARVING.
We arrived at our beach house around noon, it was better then I expected. It had a fantastic view of the beach and the house itself was just beautiful. After a while we headed up the road to the grocery store... that is when I encountered a little culture shock. I got 3 bananas, 2 mangos, strawberries, a 12 pack of coke, a half gallon of milk, and a 6 pack of beer...$40.00!!! WHAT??? Lol. Thankfully that is the most we paid for food the entire trip. It is actually cheaper to go out to eat in Carrrabelle, tastes better then my cooking too. We all took naps that afternoon.... so lazy right? Then we headed out to eat. We hit up this place called 2 AL's At The Beach Cafe, by far the best food of the entire trip. I had the shrimp and mashed potatoes (for Greyson). The shrimp was so fresh tasting, I have been craving it every since. Daniel got the seafood platter with grouper and fried oysters. I am not a fish fan but I am pretty sure I could have eaten all of his grouper by myself. My only peeve with the place was they didn't serve alcohol. People at other tables had beer and wine, I am assuming that they were allowed to bring it in themselves. Next time I will do the same. After we left 2 Al's we headed to play on the beach before sunset. We had a ton of fun. Grey really enjoyed running around on the beach and trying to take off into the ocean. He just played and played until the UNTHINKABLE happened. He was playing on a sand dune.... then he fell down the sand dune... and ATE SAND. It was all in his mouth, his eyes, and his nose. He stood up and yelled "Night Night!". After that he was done with it all. He wanted to go home and go to sleep.
Saturday morning was spent sight seeing. We went to the Crooked River Lighthouse first. Honestly, not all that impressive. They did have a pretty awesome playground with a large pirate ship. Grey played around for a bit but got tired of it. Then we headed down the coast to St. George Island, drove around while Grey took his nap. Not much to see, unless you like looking at the backside of beach houses. After he woke up we headed back across the bridge and walked the pier. Stopped at a place called Bayside Burgers for lunch.. it was a typical burger joint. Then back to the house for a nap.. all three of us slept until almost 6PM. Nothing better then living on "Island Time". Dinner was at a local BBQ joint where I had the most amazing baked beans of my life. Guess who got the recipe. Ha! Then some more sight seeing down at the wharf. Took some fantastic pictures of the sunset. It sounds like a busy day but it was actually fairly relaxing and laid back.
The rest of our trip was fairly uneventful. Monday morning we decided since we were so close to Mobile we would just swing on over to see what we could find... nothing. Absolutely nothing! Ha so then it was home for us. I never want to come home when I go on vacation. This was the best vacation I have ever had. I had both of my guys right there with me. There is nothing I would change about it. I cannot wait to go back. I love making memories with the fellas.
