I had awful visions of him falling out of bed and getting a concussion… you know, typical mom anxiety.
So, we got him this adorable little bed..which he outgrew at lightning speed; he slept in this bed for less than a year. I would put him to bed in it and by 2am he was climbing into bed with me.
It was time for an upgrade. Grey finally has a big boy bed.
But, I didn’t want to get rid of it. It’s too dang cute to just sell or donate… I love it! So I pondered for a few weeks on what to do with it and this is what I came up with.
It’s perfect, and was easy to do. Although I was just the brains behind the bookshelf… D did all the work.
First thing he did was to take off the old flimsy back (the bottom), we did this because we wanted something more sturdy so that we could anchor the bookshelf to the wall… SAFTEY FIRST!
Then he removed the top for the toy box section that was at the end of the bed as that was going to be our top shelf.
After attaching the new back he cut some shelves. I wanted to leave the bottom section open so that I could put a laundry basket in there, so he only needed to cut two shelves. He used some of the boards he pulled off the bottom to make braces for the shelves.
That is literally all we did construction wise.
Grey’s little boat bed has found a new place in my heart as this adorable custom bookshelf.
I love how it really ties the nautical theme of this room together…but, to see the whole room you will just have to stay tuned for the finished product.
